Monday, 11 March

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, followed by consultations on the same subject.

At 10:00 a.m., in the GA Hall, the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63) will hold its opening session. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are expected to attend the session, which will continue until 22 March.

In Geneva, at 1.00 p.m., in Press Room 1, the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR)/ Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) will hold a press conference on the Concluding Observations by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Botswana, Colombia, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Serbia, and the United Kingdom. The speakers will be Nicole Ameline (Vice-Chair) and Nahla Haidar.

Tuesday, 12 March

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on cooperation between the UN and the regional and sub-regional organizations of the European Union.

At 10:30 a.m., in the GA Hall, there will be a High-Level Event on ‘Women in Power’. Confirmed speakers include Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the General Assembly; H. E. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, President of Croatia; H. E. Mrs. Kersti Kaljulaid, President of the Republic of Estonia; H. E. Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Prime Minister of Iceland; and Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Women, among others.

At 08:00 a.m., in Conference Room 1, in the context of CSW63, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, will host an event titled: ‘Transforming the Social-Economic Landscape for Women and other Vulnerable Groups’. At 06:00 p.m., at the Visitors’ Lobby, in the context of CSW63, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, will host an event titled: ‘Eliminating Female Genital Mutilation by 2030: Scaling Up Communication Strategies and Mobilizing Resources for Effective Response’. At 3:00 p.m., in Conference Room 6, during the 21st Plenary session of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), there will be an open session on Multilateralism. At 11:00 a.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing by UN Women and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the launch of the Map on Women in Politics 2019, in the context of CSW63. Speakers will be Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Women and Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Barron, IPU President.

At 2.45 p.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing the President of the General Assembly, Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, along with governments leaders, on the High-Level Event on ‘Women in Power’.

Wednesday, 13 March

 The Secretary-General will travel to Washington, D.C. for bilateral meetings with the U.S. administration and with members of Congress, as part of his ongoing engagement with U.S. officials.

In the morning, the Security Council will hold consultations on Yemen.

At 06:30 p.m., in Conference Room 7, in the context of CSW63 the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, will host an event titled: ‘Response to Syria crisis in Turkey: Women and Girls Safe Spaces’.

Thursday, 14 March

 In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold a meeting with the troop contributing countries of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, MONUSCO.
