Saturday, 09 February

In Addis Ababa, at 3:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Hotel, the Secretary-General will attend an Africa Leadership Meeting on Investing in Health, hosted by H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda and Chairperson of the African Union.

In Dubai, at 10:00 a.m., in the DEWA Hall, the Deputy Secretary-General will give the Opening Speech at the World Government Summit. While in Dubai, she will also have bilateral meetings with senior Government officials on Climate Change, the Sustainable Development Goals and the upcoming World Expo 2020.

Sunday, 10 February

Today is World Pulses Day.

In Addis Ababa, at 11:30 a.m., at the African Union, the Secretary-General will attend the Opening Ceremony of the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, being held under the theme: Year of the Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons in Africa. Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacements.

In Geneva, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cinerama Empire, to mark the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela, Ciné-ONU presents – in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of France and the Permanent Mission of South Africa to the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Permanent Delegation of the Council of Europe to the UN Geneva – a documentary by Nicolas Champeaux and Gilles Porte titled, “The State Against Mandela and the Others”. This movie traces, through forgotten sound recordings, the historical trial of the former president of South Africa, where eight others were sentenced to death.

Ambassador Walter Stevens, Head of the Permanent EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva, and Alessandra Vellucci, Director of the UN Information Service, will make opening remarks. The screening will be followed by a discussion with: H.E. Ms. Nozipho Joyce Mxakato-Diseko, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Mission of South Africa to the UN in Geneva; Ms. Clarisse Gérardin, Human Rights Counselor, Permanent Mission of France to the UN in Geneva and Mr. Nicolas Champeaux, co-Director of the movie.

Monday, 11 February

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, followed by consultations on the same subject.

Wednesday, 13 February

Today is World Radio Day.

In the morning, the Security Council be briefed on Iraq, followed by consultations on the same subject.

The Security Council will travel to Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau from 13 to 17 February, with the Permanent Representatives of Côte d'Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea leading the mission.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m., in Press Room 1, the International Labour Organization (ILO) will launch a report, World Employment and Social Outlook – Trends 2019 (WESO). The speakers will be Deborah Greenfield, Deputy Director-General for Policy, ILO, and Damian Grimshaw, ILO Director of Research.

In The Hague, at 3:00 p.m., at the Peace Palace, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, will deliver its Judgment on the preliminary objections raised by the United States of America in the case concerning Certain Iranian Assets (Islamic Republic of Iran v. United States of America). A public sitting will take place, during which Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, President of the Court, will read the Court’s decision. The sitting will be streamed live and on demand on UN Web TV as well as on the ICJ’s website. For further information please consult the Court’s press release.

Thursday, 14 February

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Ms. Maria do Valle Ribeiro, Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

Friday, 15 February

At 10:00 a.m., in the ECOSOC Chamber, the 394th meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will take place to elect its Bureau and adopt the 2019 Programme of work. The Secretary-General will preside over the Bureau elections.
