Monday, 4 February

Today is World Cancer Day.

At 3:00 p.m. in Conference Room 4, there will be an informal meeting with former Presidents of the General Assembly on the theme: “Revitalization of the United Nations in favour of a strengthened multilateral rules-based system.” The meeting will be interactive in nature and there will be no pre-determined list of speakers.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m. in Press Room 1, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will present their joint report on social protection for children. The speakers will be Isabel Ortiz, Director of the Social Protection Department, ILO, and David Stewart, Chief of the Child Poverty and Social Protection Unit, UNICEF.

At 2:00 p.m. in Press Room 1, the UN Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will brief on “Trade Wars: The Pain and the Gains” an analysis of the ongoing effects of trade wars, including which countries are benefiting from trade diversions. The speaker will be Pamela Coke-Hamilton, UNCTAD, Director, Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities.

Tuesday, 5 February

At 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room 5, there will be an event entitled “Financing for Development and the 2030 Agenda” organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. David Shearer, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for South Sudan and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)

At 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 9, there will be an event entitled “The New York Interfaith Dialogue: Building Social Cohesion and Inclusive Communities” commemorating resolution A/RES/65/5 and World Interfaith Harmony Week. This event is organized by the Permanent Mission of Ecuador.

In Geneva, at 2:00 p.m. in Room III, the World Food Programme (WFP) will brief on ‘Transforming humanitarian assistance and cutting costs through technical innovation and digital transformation.’ The speakers will be Enrica Porcari, WFP Chief Information Officer and Director of Technology, and Chair of the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), Josh Harris, EVP for Philanthropy Engineering, Palantir, and Herve Verhoosel, WFP Senior Spokesperson.

Wednesday, 6 February

Today is the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation.

At 11 a.m. in the UN Visitors’ Lobby, the 68 Million Girls at Risk photography exhibition will open. The exhibition is organized by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) to mark the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

In Geneva, at 10:30 a.m. in Press Room 1, the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) will brief on ‘Ensure Dignity: Meeting the needs of survivors.’ The speakers will be Giles Duley, CEO & Founder, Legacy of War Foundation and Photographer, Dr. Maphekay Sediqi, Physical Rehabilitation Therapist, Kabul Orthopedic Organisation, Afghanistan, Patrick Fruchet, UNMAS Programme Manager, Afghanistan, and Dr. Lucy Foss, Centre for Blast Injuries, Imperial College London.

Thursday, 7 February

In Geneva, at 10:30 a.m. in Press Room 1, UNMAS will brief on its 2019 Mine Action Portfolio, some of the important outcomes of the week and update (“one year later”) on the demining work in Iraq. The speakers will be Agnès Marcaillou, UNMAS Director, and Pehr Lodhammar, Chief of the UNMAS Programme in Iraq.

Friday, 8 February
