In Katowice, Poland, the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – known informally as COP24 – will officially open; the meeting will continue until 14 December.

Monday, 3 December

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Tuesday, 4 December

In Geneva, at 9:00 a.m., in Press Room III, and then from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m, in the Council Chamber, Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, will launch the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) 2019 and the World Humanitarian Data and Trends (WHDT) 2018.

Also in Geneva, at 1:00 p.m., in Room III, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), David Beasley, will give an update on food security and WFP operations in Yemen.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m., in Room III, Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, will speak in the context of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In Geneva, 12:00 p.m., in Press Room 1, the International Labour Organization (ILO) will launch its report “Global estimates on international migrant workers”.

At 1 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library’s second floor reading room, author Dr. Rebecca Adami will discuss her book “Women and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber, the Department of Public Information – in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations and the Consulate General of Brazil in New York – will host a screening of the Academy Award nominated animated film Ferdinand, to mark Human Rights Day. Opening remarks will be delivered by Ms. Alison Smale, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications; H.E. Mr. Mauro Vieira, Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations; and Mr. Carlos Saldanha, the film’s director. A panel discussion will follow the screening.

Thursday, 6 December

At 6 p.m. in the Visitors Lobby, the Secretary-General will open the exhibit “Free and Equal in Dignity and Rights: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 70.” The President of the General Assembly will also deliver remarks.

In Geneva, at 3:00 p.m., in Press Room 1, the World Health Organization will launch its Global status report on road safety 2018, which will detail the progress and challenges in making roads safer to protect health and save lives.

In Geneva, at 3:30 p.m., in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room, a special event “TEDxPlacedesNationsWomen” will shine a spotlight on 11 inspiring speakers with “ideas worth spreading” to show that when women are empowered, they do great things for society as a whole. Friday, 7 December

Today is International Civil Aviation Day.

At 11:00 a.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, the Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, and the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications will deliver remarks at a special event marking the 70th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.
