The Secretary-General is travelling to Lisbon, Portugal, where he will receive the José Aparecido de Oliveira Prize from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP); the Secretary-General will also take part in the 2018 Web Summit.

Monday, 05 November

Today is World Tsunami Awareness Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the situation in the Middle East, which will be followed by consultations on the same subject.

At UN Headquarters, the 13th United Nations Police Week Conference will be launched; it will continue until 9 November. Heads of Police Components in United Nations Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions will discuss strategic police priorities, including the implementation of the commitments in the joint declaration on Action for Peacekeeping. The Police Chiefs will also brief the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations and the Security Council.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the 751/1907 Committee (Somalia/Eritrea).

In Geneva, the Committee on Enforced Disappearances will hold its 15th Session, which will continue until 16 November

Tuesday, 06 November

Today is the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.

Wednesday, 07 November

In the morning, the Security Council will hold a debate on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed by UN Police Commissioners on UN peacekeeping operations.

In Geneva, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development will hold its 2nd Session, which will continue until 09 November.

At 6:00 p.m., in Room XIV, Cinema, as part of Geneva Peace Week 2018, there will be a special screening of the movie, A Rose in Winter, the story of Edith Stein - a champion of feminism, a Carmelite nun, a German Jew, a martyrdom in Auschwitz and a canonized saint.

A discussion on "Lessons for the future of peacebuilding: How can history inform current practice to confront contemporary challenges to peace?" will follow the screening. Staffan De Mistura, Special Envoy of the SG for Syria, and the lead actress, Zana Marjanovic, who’s also a former Bosnian Parliamentarian. Xavier Colin, Journalist and former anchor of Geopolitis on RTS will moderate.

Thursday, 08 November

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the situation in Libya, which will be followed by consultations on the same subject.

Friday, 09 November

In the morning, the Security Council will hold an open debate on the maintenance of international peace and security, focusing on strengthening multilateralism and the role of the United Nations.
