In Addis Ababa, the Secretary-General will take part in the second African Union-United Nations Annual Conference. That event will cover a wide range of topics, including peace and security and development, as well as on peacekeeping missions in Africa. This meeting is part of efforts to strengthening the AU-UN partnership. While in Addis Ababa, the Secretary-General will also meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

In New York in the morning, the Security Council will have an open debate on the topic of Children and armed conflict: Protecting children today prevents conflict tomorrow.

At 9 a.m. in Conference Room 4, the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will begin and will continue until 18 July. Wednesday, 11 July

Today is World Population Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will hold a debate on the topic of maintenance of international peace and security: climate related security risks.

At 10:00 a.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the launch of the Global Innovation Index 2018.

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–Habitat). She will brief reporters, in the context of the HLPF, on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 11.

Thursday, 12 July

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on South Sudan sanctions and the United Nations – African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). It will also have a Troop Contributing Country meeting on the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
