 Today is the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

At 10 a.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing by the United Nations Environment Programme on the launch of REN21’s Renewables 2018 Global Status Report.

At 10 a.m. in Conference Room 1, the President of the General Assembly will convene an interactive civil society hearing as part of the preparatory process toward the General Assembly high-level meeting on the fight against tuberculosis.

At 3 p.m. in Conference Room 7, the co-facilitators for strengthening the Economic and Social Council will convene an informal meeting.

In Geneva, at 2:15 p.m. in Room III, there will be a press conference on the humanitarian situation in South Sudan with Mark Lowcock, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

Also in Geneva, at 3:00 p.m. in Press Room 1, there will be a press conference on the occasion of the publication of the World Investment Report 2018: Investment and New Industrial Policies. Speakers will include Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and James Zhan, Director in UNCTAD’s Division on Investment and Enterprise.

 

Tuesday, 5 June

Today is World Environment Day. Events are taking place around the world to clean-up beaches, rivers and parks. Details of the main events, latest stories and #BeatPlasticPollution social media campaign are available from the website http://worldenvironmentday.global

Today is also the International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.

In the morning, the Security Council will meet on the Middle East (Syria) in consultations.

At 10 a.m., the General Assembly plenary will meet to elect the President and Vice-Presidents of the 73rd session of the General Assembly in the General Assembly Hall. The President-elect of the 73rd session will speak to the press at a media stakeout on the 2nd floor, outside the General Assembly Hall, at approximately 12 p.m.

At 10 a.m. in Conference Room 4, the 3rd Annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science Technology and Innovation (STI Forum) will take place and will continue on Wednesday.

The fifth round of the intergovernmental negotiations on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will be held from 5 to 8 June in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.

Wednesday, 6 June

 

Today is Russian Language Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will hold a debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.

At 11:30 a.m. in Conference Room F, there will be a workshop entitled “A Road Map to Making Successful Pitch” co-organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the NYU Women’s Initiative.

The next round of intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform will be held on 6-7 June in Conference Room 1.

In the afternoon, there will be a meeting of troop-contributing countries on the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

In Geneva, at 12:30 p.m. in Press Room 1, there will be a press conference on Concluding Observations by the Committee on the Rights of the Child. Speakers will include the Chair of the Committee, Renate Winter, and Vice-Chair, Clarence Nelson.

Also in Geneva, at 5:00 p.m. in Room III, there will be a press conference on the Publication of the Compendium: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Least Developed Countries. Speakers will include the Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, and the UNCTAD Secretary-General, Mukhisa Kituyi.

In Brussels, at 2:45 p.m. there will be a Leadership Panel on “Clean household energy for health and women empowerment: a roadmap towards 2030” co-organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

Thursday, 7 June

In the morning, there will be a meeting of troop-contributing countries on the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

At 10:00 a.m., the Global Symposium on the Role of Micro-, Small- and Medium- Enterprises (MSMEs) in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will take place in Conference Room 12.

Friday, 8 June

Today is World Oceans Day.

At 10 a.m., the General Assembly plenary meeting to elect five-non-permanent members of the Security Council will be held in the General Assembly Hall. A media stakeout will be set up on the 2nd floor, outside the General Assembly Hall.
