Today is World Tuberculosis Day and the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims.

Sunday, 25 March

Today is the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members.

Monday, 26 March

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East.

At 3:00 p.m. the General Assembly will hold its annual commemorative meeting in observance of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

The Secretary-General and Dr. Rohan Perera, Vice President of the General Assembly and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, will deliver remarks. Ms. Graciela Dixon, Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Panama, will serve as the keynote speaker.

Afterwards, at 6:00 p.m., in the Visitors Lobby, the Department of Public Information and the Remember Slavery Programme Steering Committee will host a Culinary and Cultural Experience to celebrate the global African diaspora. The event will feature authentic food and drinks from Member States, as well as musical performances by the group Kakande, and by Jamaican Reggae Artist Kezz-I.

In Tunis, Tunisia, the Workshop on the Operation of Civil Registration, Vital Statistics and Identity Management Systems and the Production of Vital Statistics Reports for the Eastern Mediterranean Region Countries (Group2) will start today and will continue until 30 March. Tuesday, 27 March

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). It will also be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Wednesday, 28 March

In the morning, the Security Council will hold an open debate on UN peacekeeping operations.

In Geneva, at 1:15 p.m. in Press Room 1, the Inter-Parliamentary Union will hold a briefing on the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, 24-28 March. The speakers will be Senator Gabriela Cuevas Barron, IPU President and Martin Chungong, IPU Secretary General.

Thursday, 29 March

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.

At 3:00 p.m. in Conference Room 2, the  Department of Public Information will host a briefing for NGOs entitled “Triumphs and Struggles for Freedom and Equality”, in observance of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Experts will discuss the gains people of African descent have made from slavery to the present, including the challenges that have been overcome in the movement towards freedom and equality.

Friday, 30 March

Today is an official UN holiday (Good Friday). The UN Headquarters will be closed.
