The Deputy Secretary-General will be in Geneva to participate in the meeting of the International Labour Organization Governing Board and the World Summit for Information Society Forum.  

This morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Tuesday 20 March

Today is the International Day of Happiness and French Language Day.

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Guy Berger, Director of Freedom of Expression and Media Development at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 

At 3 p.m. in the General Assembly Hall, the 79th plenary meeting on the Elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance will take place on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the 1701 report.

In Geneva, from 6 p.m. the Mix&Mash (9th edition) will take place at the Brasserie des Halles de l’Île.

Wednesday 21 March

The Deputy Secretary-General will be in Monrovia, Liberia, to participate in the event to celebrate the successful completion of the UNMIL mandate, the National Reconciliation Conference, the High-level Meeting on the national development agenda for 2018-2024.

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, World Poetry Day, the International Day of Nowruz, World Down Syndrome Day and the International Day of Forests.

This morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on non-proliferation/DPRK. It will also be briefed on and hold consultation on the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and Libya sanctions.

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Claude Jibidar, World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

At 1:15 p.m., in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, the UN Human Rights Office will hold a Discussion on “Contributions, Achievements, and Challenges of People of African Descent Worldwide.” United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, will be one of the key speakers at this event.

Also at 1:15 p.m., in Conference Room 8, there will be an event entitled “Fostering Innovation in Water Technologies for Sustainable Development Goal 6” co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Singapore and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency.

In Geneva, at 11:00 a.m. in Press Room 1 the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will hold a briefing on the International Patent System in 2017.  International Trademark & Design Systems in 2017. The speaker will be Francis Gurry, WIPO Director General.

Thursday 22 March

Today is World Water Day.

At 11:00 a.m., the Security Council will be briefed on peace and security in Africa.

At 3:00 p.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, the President of the General Assembly will convene a high-level event to launch the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018–2028).

Friday 23 March

The Deputy Secretary-General will be in Nigeria for consultations with senior Government officials and other stakeholders in Lagos and Abuja.

Today is World Meteorological Day.

At 11:00 a.m., the Security Council will be briefed on the maintenance of international peace and security.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m. in Room III, there will be a press briefing by the UN Geneva Director-General Michael Møller on his priorities for 2018.
