“Be a Citizen Ambassador to the United Nations:
Speak to World Leaders through YouTube”

As world leaders from 192 United Nations Member States converge on New York for the 64th session of the General Assembly, the Department of Public Information is launching a groundbreaking campaign entitled “Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations”, which encourages people everywhere to directly engage with decision makers by uploading video messages on the UN YouTube channel. The innovative “Citizen Ambassadors” campaign will take place from 23 September through 10 October 2009, coinciding with the General Debate part of the General Assembly. It harnesses the power of online video-sharing and offers a unique opportunity for world citizens – youth in particular – to make their voices heard during the United Nations General Assembly by responding to the question: “If you had the opportunity to speak to the world leaders, what would you say?”

New Websites launched for United Nations Meetings Coverage and Press Releases
English: http://www.un.org/en/unpress/
French: http://www.un.org/fr/unpress/
The new sites offer a simplified user-friendly design that differentiates product by type (meetings coverage, press releases, press conferences, and briefings of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General).  The websites also offer the possibility of retrieving information as it relates to the main organs of the United Nations, and headlines are now more legible, noting a highlight of the content of the document. The sites have links to various news- and media-related websites at United Nations Headquarters and overseas Offices.  They have consolidated and improved access to coverage of intergovernmental meetings, some while still in progress; statements by the Secretary-General; transcripts of the Spokesperson’s noon briefing; summaries of press conferences; and other United Nations press releases. Managed by the Meetings Coverage Section of the Department of Public Information, the sites further provide archives of these various resources dating back to October 1995. The world's deadliest drug has created a market worth $65 billion, catering to 15 million addicts, causing up to 100,000 deaths per year, spreading HIV and, not least, funding criminal groups, insurgents and terrorists.

Companies which invest in cultural diversity, whether at the management, human resources or marketing level, can benefit economically from it. This is one of the conclusions in this UNESCO World Report. The report aims to become a reference tool for cultural diversity. Cultural diversity, which is too often reduced to the protection of heritage in danger, is also the development of intercultural skills, the search for an antidote to expressions of cultural isolationism, the road towards new forms of governance, the lever of the effective exercise of universally recognized human rights and a means to reduce imbalances in the world trade in creative products.

  • evaluate the status and implementation of the CRC, after 193 ratifications and 17 years of reporting; and identify priorities for the future taking into consideration the two Optional Protocols to the Convention.
