Tickling Giants

by Sara Taksler

To mark World Press Freedom Day 2017, the United Nations and One World invited you to the screening of “Tickling Giants”. A collaboration with the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival.

Runtime: 94′

Following the Arab Spring and in need of a laugh, Dr. Bassem Youssef left heart surgery to try his hand at comedy. “Al Bernameg”, the first political satire show in Egypt, had 30 million weekly viewers. TICKLING GIANTS shows that comedy can be cathartic. This movie shows people who fight oppression with their jokes, not their fists.

The film was followed by a tête-à-tête with:

Shaima Abu-I-Kheir (Member of the Egyptian Journalist Syndicate and the National Union of Journalists in London) and Caroline Petit, Deputy Director, UNRIC.
