Runtime: 60′

Every day, 1000 women die from complications during pregnancy or childbirth. “No Woman No Cry”, a documentary film produced by supermodel Christy Turlington-Burns, puts a face to this troubling statistic. Shot over a year in four countries, the film follows a Maasai woman who must walk five miles, while in labour, to a clinic with no electricity; a young pregnant woman in the slums of Bangladesh who is too ashamed to seek care; a pregnant gynecologist in Guatemala who helps women who have suffered from botched illegal abortions; and a midwife in central Florida who treats uninsured women who are denied appointments elsewhere.

“No Woman No Cry” was screened on the occasion of the 3rd Brussels Millennium Film Festival, organized in Brussels.

The film was followed by a Q/A with Goedele Liekens (UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and media personality), Pascale Maquestiau (Le Monde selon Les Femmes) and Dagmar Schumacher (Director UN Women Brussels).
