Herman Van Rompuy will deliver a keynote lecture on the occasion of the Official Opening of the Academic Year 2011-2012

The European University Institute invites the press to the Official Opening of the Academic Year 2011-2012 that will be held on 11 November at 15:00, in the Church of the Badia Fiesolana.
The President of the European Council Van Rompuy will give a keynote Lecture and officially inaugurate the new Academic Year together with the President of the EUI Josep Borrell.
The event will also feature the presentation of the newly created Padoa-Schioppa Chair in ‘European Economic and Monetary Integration’.
Herman Van Rompuy is the first President of the European Council under the Treaty of Lisbon and he took up this position in January 2010. Previously, he served as Belgian Prime Minister and he had different functions in the Belgium government. The President studied Applied Economics at the Catholic University of Leuven and holds various honorary awards and doctorates.
