The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) jointly sponsor this year. The Year of the Dolphin is a part of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development. The campaign is also a tangible contribution towards meeting targets to reduce the loss of wildlife by 2010 which all Governments have agreed through the UN.

Declarations and Conventions in General Assembly Resolutions

Spanish: http://www.un.org/spanish/documents/instruments/docs_sp.asp
The site links to declarations, conventions and other instruments, the text of which appear in resolutions of the General Assembly or their annexes. Instruments that have not been submitted for adoption by the General Assembly, i.e. Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, are not included. This database is available in all the official languages. This site also offers more options for sorting than the UN Documentation Research Guide International Instruments page (http://www.un.org/Depts/dhl/resguide/resins.htm). There are also slightly different criteria for selection of items to be included.

World Economic Situation and Prospects 2007
http://www.un.org/esa/policy/wess/wesp.html
(Full report available in English, summary available in English, French and Spanish)
After a solid and broad-based growth for three consecutive years, the world economy is expected to decelerate in 2007, mainly dragged by a slowdown of the United States. Growth in Europe and Japan, meanwhile, will not be sufficient for these economies to act as locomotives of global growth. The outlook remains mostly positive for developing countries, but a degree of moderation is also expected. Sustained high growth in China, India and a few other major emerging economies seems to have engendered synergy among developing countries so that growth in this group is more endogenous. However, a large number of developing countries remain highly vulnerable to the vicissitudes of commodity prices and the volatility of international financial markets. The report highlights the need for greater employment growth, which has not kept pace with output growth. The global economic outlook also encompasses a number of important downside risks: bursts in the housing bubbles in a number of countries, uncertainties in oil prices and mounting global imbalances. The report calls for international macroeconomic policy coordination in order to facilitate an orderly adjustment of global imbalances.

It is intended for masters, ship owners, government authorities, insurance companies, and other interested parties involved in rescue at sea situations.
