Population Dynamics and Climate Change (UNFPA / IIED)
The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) has issued a report on population dynamics and climate change. The report broadens and deepens understanding of a wide range of population-climate change linkages. Incorporating population dynamics into research, policymaking and advocacy around climate change is critical for understanding the trajectory of global greenhouse gas emissions, for developing and implementing adaptation plans and thus for global and national efforts to curtail this threat.
Afghanistan Opium Survey 2009 (UNODC)
The potential gross export value of Afghanistan's opiates is down 18 per cent, from US$ 3.4 billion in 2008 to US$ 2.8 billion in 2009. The decline can be attributed to less cultivation, lower production, lower prices and relatively higher GDP.
DESA Capacity Development Office – new website
The Capacity Development Office has launched a new website to inform about the role and approach of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) to capacity development and how the office supports the USG and divisions of DESA in the formulation and implementation of the Department’s capacity development approach and promotes coherence and integrated delivery of the Department’s operational activities.

This new report - released by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) - reveals that much stronger accountability mechanisms for tracking progress on gender equality are needed in order to meet national and international commitments to women’s rights. Accountability to women begins with increasing the number of women in decision-making positions, but it cannot stop there.
State of the World's Indigenous People
The United Nations has launched its first publication on the State of the World’s Indigenous People. The report notes that the world’s 370 million indigenous peoples suffer from disproportionately, often exponentially, higher rates of poverty, health problems, crime and human rights abuses; stressing that self-determination and land rights are vital for their survival. United Nations-Business Partnership Gateway
This new gateway will allow companies willing to contribute to the United Nations to browse through a catalogue of humanitarian needs (including relief-for-Haiti appeals) and partnership opportunities, or simply to submit ideas for collaboration. Based on shared interests, the site flags potential matches to be connected directly. At the same time, business.un.org offers United Nations agencies interested in private-sector support the opportunity to identify and describe needs and preferences, covering nearly all operations of the Organization, from humanitarian relief to poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS prevention.

World Economic Situation and Prospects 2010 (UNCTAD)
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), has issued an advance copy of The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2010 (Global Outlook Report). This report is a joint product of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the five United Nations regional commissions (Economic Commission for Africa, (UNECA), Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the (Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The report provides an analysis of the past year economic situation and prospects for the future.
Politically Speaking: Winter 2009-2010 issue (DPA)
The latest issue includes interviews with UN envoys in the field, a two-year progress report from the USG for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe, reviews a major 2009 report of the Secretary-General on enhancing UN capacity for conflict mediation, described the prevention of conflict between the West African nations of Ghana and the Gambia.
