The document reports on 12 weeks of field work in the region, in particular in the North and South Kivu provinces. The report makes recommendations and has annexed many examples of evidence.

En 2007, les mines ont fait plus de 5000 victimes, dont les trois quarts sont des civils. La lutte antimines ne consiste pas uniquement à éliminer les mines terrestres sur le terrain. Elle comprend également des mesures qui vont de la prévention contre le danger dans un environnement miné à la promotion d’un monde sans mines.

The report of the Security Council Mission to Afghanistan, 21-28 November 2008 has been issued. This was the Security Council's third visit to Afghanistan since 2002, having visited in November 2003 and November 2006.

In a letter dated 19 December 2008 (S/2008/804), the Secretary-General noted that in his assessment sufficient troop pledges to allow deployment of a multinational force to Somalia is unlikely to materialize as envisioned by the Security Council's presidential statement of 4 September 2008 (S/PRST/2008/33: http://www.un.org/Docs/journal/asp/ws.asp?m=S/PRST/2008/33). As an alternative, the Secretary-General listed 3 options as alternative proposals to the setting up the multinational force. These are:

• Reinforcing the African Union Mission for Somalia (AMISOM)
• Building Somali capacity to restore the security sector and the rule of law
• Maritime task force

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued the report of the International Year of the Potato that records the activities of the Year and underscores the message that the potato is a vital part of the global food system.

New Migration Website

The new website lists all reports and notes of the Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly on international migration and development and includes all General Assembly and Economic and Social Council resolutions on this topic. The webpage also displays reports on protection of migrants, trafficking and remittances. Altogether, the new page contains 90 documents in all six official languages since the 48th session of the GA (1993-1994).

The report outlines the latest paradigms in health programming and policies for mothers and newborns, and explores policies, programmes and partnerships aimed at improving maternal and neonatal health.
