projectimpactThe International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Youth Employment Network (YEN) and Making Cents International have partnered to launch the Project Impact! competition to draw out the lessons learned that youth employment practitioners have experienced in the field. The result of the competition will be a series of Smart Notes published on the YEN Marketplace website.

The cross-cutting theme for the competition is rural youth and increasing opportunities in rural areas. This focus is closely aligned to the theme of the 2013 Global Youth Economic Opportunities Conference.

Greeningtheblue2013On 5 June, individuals and organizations around the world will be getting involved with activities to promote this year’s theme: food waste.

Greening the Blue is encouraging UN staff and others around the world to celebrate World Environment Day by making a pledge to reduce their foodprints!

Staff can make up their pledge or borrow one from the website.

c4c-logoConnect4Climate (C4C) has launched iChange: a video competition for students from all over the world to create sharp 30-second video messages about climate change!

C4C, launched by the World Bank, the Italian Ministry of Environment, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a global partnership program dedicated to climate change communication.

UNEP Leftover Recipe CompetitionThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through its GreenUp! initiative has launched a competition that asks global citizens to show their love for leftovers, and submit a recipe that they use to clean out the fridge.

Love your leftovers aims at making a meaningful contribution to UNEP's new global campaign called 'Think.Eat.Save - Reduce Your Foodprint' to reduce food waste and food losses around the world.

UPU - 2013 International letter-writing competition for young people

UPUwater-compThe theme is: "Write someone a letter explaining why water is a precious resource".

The 2013 theme ties in with the International Decade for Action "Water for Life" 2005–2015.

Water serves a multitude of different purposes, and it is vital that we preserve this precious natural resource. Access to water is essential to ensuring the health and well-being of humans and the protection of nature.

Young people up to the age of 15 years may take part in the competition.
