PLURAL+ 2014 Youth Video Festival

pluralplusThe United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) again invite the world’s youth to submit original and creative videos focusing on PLURAL+ themes: migration, diversity and social inclusion.

Recognizing youth as powerful agents of social change in a world often characterized by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions, PLURAL+ invites youth to address key challenges related to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness, both at local and global levels. Young people up to 25 years old are invited to submit short videos of five minutes maximum in length.

UNESCO - Airbus Fly Your Ideas Partnership

fyi-logoNow in its fourth edition, Fly Your Ideas invites students worldwide to innovate for the future of aviation. Over a series of progressively challenging rounds, teams work with Airbus mentors and experts towards the live final in June 2015. Participants will have the chance to work with Airbus innovators to develop their ideas further throughout the competition. The winning team will receive €30,000 (approx. US$40,000).

Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction:
TV Film competition

Films are powerful media that create conversation, reveal truths, inspire people and build awareness. To celebrate a ten year global partnership with TV broadcasters and the role they have played to advance the disaster risk reduction agenda, this TV film competition will honor the most:

  1. Captivating human stories of courage, strength and disaster resilience
  2. Investigative stories on past disaster or disasters waiting to happen
  3. Innovative stories about disaster risk reduction solutions

The celebration of the TV film competition will culminate in an Awards Gala Ceremony at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will showcase the winning stories.

Metro Photo Challenge

MPC-comp-webOn the occasion of the UN Climate Summit, to be held on 23 September at the UN Headquarters in New York City, METRO International will launch the 10th edition of METRO Photo Challenge, the world’s largest photography competition.

The competition is open to everyone everywhere. The theme chosen with the United Nations Climate Change team is: “My Green City.” Details of the 2014 Metro Photo Challenge’s other themes, categories and Grand Prize will be announced on the day of the launch on 23 September.

School Food Waste Competition

borderedbybordersThe Think.Eat.Save Student Challenge aims to encourage secondary school and university students from around the world to uncover and understand - through the design and implementation of hands-on projects - how much food waste they are producing and the impact it is having on the environment and economy.

By undertaking one of the following activities, students or their schools can win up to US$5,000 that can be used to further implement their winning idea:

  • Investigate how much food the school wastes every year and learn about the main causes of waste
  • or Take action to eliminate or reduce food waste in the school
  • or Raise awareness in the school and/or community on the issue of food waste and why it should be eliminated

Entries must be submitted between 17 September and 16 November 2014.
