31May-comps-3rdITUIn support of the “World Environment Day” (WED) and to follow up on the Paris Call to Action on “Smart Sustainable Cities”, ITU and Telefónica have announced a 3rd Green ICT Application Challenge to uncover innovative ICT approaches and applications towards addressing global environmental issues in cities and urban areas.

The Challenge is open to individuals from ITU Member States.

The theme for this year's competition is "The Power of Culture to Create a Better Future" - The future begins with the vision we hold now. What kind of future do you wish to create for yourself and the world?

Every part of the world has its own culture. Culture includes the arts, traditions and customs of a country or region, as well as the wisdom, values, lifestyles and trends of the people living there. In order to build a peaceful world, we need to acknowledge and respect each other's cultures. What aspects of the culture in your country or region do you take pride in, and how can youth make the most of them to create a better future?

pluralplusThe International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) are once again inviting the world’s youth and to share their vision with the world by submitting original and creative videos focusing on the themes of migration, diversity and social inclusion.

Now in its 5th year, the PLURAL+ youth video festival is an empowering tool and platform for young people from the ages of 9 to 25 to speak out with their own voices about the challenges related to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness – both at local and global levels.

Young Innovators Competition 2013 (ITU)

ITU-comp-juneITU are looking for the next generation of social technopreneurs – young people aged between 18 and 26 with an inspirational ICT-based solution to developmental challenges.

Ten winning finalists will be selected to attend ITU Telecom World 2013 in Bangkok, taking part in workshops, pitching sessions, mentoring and networking, plus receiving seed funding of up to USD 10,000 per project.

Project Impact! competition

projectimpactThe International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Youth Employment Network (YEN) and Making Cents International have partnered to launch the Project Impact! competition to draw out the lessons learned that youth employment practitioners have experienced in the field. The result of the competition will be a series of Smart Notes published on the YEN Marketplace website.

The cross-cutting theme for the competition is rural youth and increasing opportunities in rural areas. This focus is closely aligned to the theme of the 2013 Global Youth Economic Opportunities Conference.
