Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed visits the United Nations in Bonn

United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed - UN Bonn visit

12.05.2017 – UN staff in Bonn welcomed Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed on the UN Campus, where she arrived this afternoon to kick off her two-day visit.

During a town-hall meeting for UN Bonn staff, the Deputy Secretary-General expressed her appreciation for UN Bonn’s special focus on sustainability. Ms Mohammed said, “The UN in Bonn stands out as 19 United Nations organizations, with the strong support of the Federal Government of Germany and the City of Bonn as hosts, working together for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. I’m confident that Bonn will play an important role in shaping a sustainable future for all.”

During a subsequent meeting, the 19 heads of agencies thanked Ms Mohammed for her relentless work towards a more sustainable future and her essential help in bringing about both the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Climate Agreement. In the course of her stay in Bonn, she will meet with several UN-agencies as well as representatives of the German Government and the City of Bonn.

Later this afternoon, Ms Mohammed will be received by the Mayor of Bonn, Mr Ashok Sridharan, at the Old City Hall in Bonn. At a reception with representatives of the United Nations and the German Government, the Deputy-Secretary will sign her name in the Golden Visitors' Book of the City of Bonn. On the occasion of her visit to the United Nations in Bonn, she will also address delegates meeting at the Bonn Climate Change Conference on Saturday.

Ms Mohammed, who took office in February this year, has been a key driver towards the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and has previously served as Special Adviser to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on post-2015 development planning. Most recently she was the Minister of Environment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
