e-discussion on Jobs and Livelihoods in the post-2015 development agenda

Growth and employment is one of the eleven thematic areas on which the UN family is convening consultations with many actors, including practitioners and experts from civil society, businesses, trade unions, academia, policy makers and international development organizations. These discussions are organized to inform and support governments – UN member states – in forging a new post-2015 development agenda.

A global consultation on growth and employment in the post-2015 development, organized jointly by UNDP and ILO with the Government of Japan took place in May 2012. That consultation identified emerging areas of consensus, but also took note of diverging views and questions. In order to broaden that discussion, a series of four e-discussions will take place in January-February 2013. They include:

• Jobs and livelihoods, 11 January – 8 February 2013;
• Growth, diversification and structural transformation, 18 January – 15 February 2013;
• Development-led globalization, starting on 25 January – 22 February 2013; and
• Environmental sustainability and growth, starting on 31 January – 28 February 2013.

The e-discussion on Jobs and Livelihoods will be moderated by Aurelio Parisotto, senior economist from ILO and Rizwanul Islam, an independent economist who specializes in employment. The discussion seeks to get inputs from widest possible groups of stakeholders, in order to come up with shared priorities on employment in the post-2015 development agenda.
