New Post-2015 Development Framework: Conflict, Violence and Disaster


Briefing and panel discussion entitled "Conflict, Violence and Disaster and the Post-2015 Development Agenda" will be organized at the Sofitel Brussels Europe Hotel in Brussels, on Tuesday, 25 June 2013, from 15:00 to 17:30 hours.

Brussels (Belgium), 20 June 2013 – As the target date to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) fast approaches in 2015, global leaders and citizens are engaged in dialogue and critical reflection on what has been achieved and what comes next. Work to create a new development framework for the period after 2015 is being undertaken through a truly open and inclusive process.

The unprecedented global conversation is drawing on the needs, experience and expertise of people around the world. In up to 100 countries, groups of stakeholders, with the support of the UN, have held debates on what must be included in the future global development agenda.

Who: Professor Daniel Van Den Bulcke will present the report and answer questions.

Dr. Van Den Bulcke is the former Director of the Centre for International Management and Development Institute at the University of Antwerp (CIMDA). He was Chairman of the European International Business Academy between 2003 and 2009. He is the former President of the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IDPM-IOB) of the University of Antwerp and is still active as Academic Director of the Euro-China Centre of the Antwerp Management School.

The World Day to Combat Desertification, which is held every year on 17 June, is taking place worldwide today, with the global observance being held in Ghent, Belgium. Mr. Luc Gnacadja, UNCCD Executive Secretary, will deliver the keynote address at the Conference on Desertification and Land Degradation, announce the winners of this year's Land for Life Award and unveil a new programme, the Drylands Champions.
