Bonn UN Climate Change Conference

The opening UNFCCC press conference at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn (6-17 June 2011) will take place on Monday, 6 June at 13:15 CEST, following the morning plenary. Venue is the Hotel Maritim Bonn, Salon Haydn, first floor. Media must have prior accreditation in order to attend.
The briefing with UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres will also be webcast live from the UNFCCC website, as will all other press conferences during the meeting. The video files of briefings can also be accessed on demand from the website.

"Vanishing of the Bees"

magine half a million adults skipping town and leaving their children behind. Picture an opened suitcase filled with bundles of cash at a bus stop and yet no robber wants to snatch it. The apiary science mystery known as “Colony Collapse Disorder” displays these very symptoms. Not only do the bees abandon their hive, but the queen and the brood as well. Unnatural. Unheard of. Even the predators that usually raid the hive for honey stay far away. At first, this occurrence sounds like an urban legend or an exaggerated tale. Except it’s not. The situation is both dire and all too real. Bees are disappearing all over the planet and no one knows why.

UN Youth Champion Monique Coleman visits Belgium

UN Regional Information Centre, Brussels 30 MAY - On the occasion of the International Year of Youth UN Youth Champion, American Actress and singer Monique Coleman, best known for her role in the “High School Musical” movies, is visiting Belgium from 3 to 8 June as part of her “Gimme MO” world tour to give a voice to young people.

The purpose of the world tour is to see and share through social media what young people all over the planet are experiencing, and to connect people in the developing and developed worlds. “My hope is to inspire, motivate, and empower young people to become involved and to highlight the amazing achievements of youth across the globe”, Coleman says.

Millenium International Documentary Film Festival to promote MDGs (Brussels, 8-14 June)

The third edition of the Millenium International Documentary Film Festival, an independent initiative supported by the United Nations, will kick-off in Brussels on 8 June and will culminate with the award-ceremony on 14 June to the rhythm of Baaba Mal’s music.
