UN Youth Champion Monique Coleman visits Belgium

UN Regional Information Centre, Brussels 30 MAY - On the occasion of the International Year of Youth UN Youth Champion, American Actress and singer Monique Coleman, best known for her role in the “High School Musical” movies, is visiting Belgium from 3 to 8 June as part of her “Gimme MO” world tour to give a voice to young people.

The purpose of the world tour is to see and share through social media what young people all over the planet are experiencing, and to connect people in the developing and developed worlds. “My hope is to inspire, motivate, and empower young people to become involved and to highlight the amazing achievements of youth across the globe”, Coleman says.

Press Briefing on corruption in the western Balkans, 17 May

What? On the 17th of May 2011, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will release a new public sector bribery survey for the western Balkans. Surveying over 28,000 people in 2010, the European Commission-funded report, “Corruption in the western Balkans: Bribery as Experienced by the Population”, the survey reports on corruption as reported by citizens in the region, ranking a high third in the list of most pressing issues, after unemployment and poverty but well ahead of security and education. Highlighting how corruption affects everyday life, the report details the extent and levels of bribes paid for basic services.
