Panel discussion on Food Security and beyond 2015, Brussels, 17 Octobe

caritasEuropa“ Free Humanity from Hunger ! How to Integrate the Right to Food in the Post-2015 Development Framework ”

Eradicating hunger is the first of the eight Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015. Official reports from UN agencies display encouraging projections towards the attainment of this objective in the overall developing world. However, many countries remain far from reaching this target, and much progress made has been eroded by the recent global food price and economic crises. Dying of hunger in our world of plenty is a scandal and the denial of the most basic human right: the Right to Food!

The panel is coorganised by Caritas Europa, Caritas International Belgium, CIDSE and CYINDEP during the European Development Days.

UNU-EHS logoIn the run up for the International Day for Disaster Reduction (October 13), the UN University and its partners are presenting the 2nd Edition of the "WorldRiskReport 2012: Environmental degradation increases disaster risk worldwide."

The central element of the WorldRiskReport, the concept of the WorldRiskIndex, illustrates with one number the risk of various countries and regions to be hit by a disaster. Hence it shows particularly adaptation needs and disaster risk reduction has to be a priority. Special emphasis is put on exposure, susceptibility of the population, coping capacities and adaptation strategies.
