Ms Barbara Manzi, Head of UNOCHA office in Myanmar
The Head of Office is coming to Brussels to engage with EU counterparts to discuss the humanitarian situation and in particular the challenges following the increase of inter-communal violence in the country for the past year and issues in the North East in Kachin State.

Background on Ms Manzi:
Barbara Manzi, an Italian national, has been serving with OCHA since 1998 in several countries affected by natural or man-made disasters both during the emergency phase as well as transition to recovery and development, including in Angola, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Sri Lanka and Haiti. Throughout her career, she has managed programmes and supported coordination, including in complex programs with multi-donor funding and multi organizational implementation set-up. This includes supporting Governments in responding to emergencies, working with NGOs, donors, and the UN to ensure that the impact of limited resources available was maximized, and duplication of interventions avoided, in order to better serve the affected population.
The Brussels based United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe - UNRIC provides information on UN activities to the countries of the region. It also provides liaison with institutions of the European Union in the field of information. Its outreach activities extend to all segments of society and joint campaigns, projects and events are organized with partners including the EU, governments, the media, NGOs, schools and local authorities.
