The event titled “Migration, mobility and development: which role for regional and local authorities?” seeks to highlight the increasingly important role that municipalities and local authorities play in making migration work for development.
The Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI) – implemented by UNDP in collaboration with its partners IOM, ILO, UNHCR, UN WOMEN and UNFPA, and funded by the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation - in partnership with the Regione Puglia, and the European Regional and Local Authorities on Asylum and Immigration Network (ERLAI) is holding an associated seminar, titled “Migration, mobility and development: which role for regional and local authorities?”, that will take place on Tuesday April 9, 2013 from 9am – 1pm at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.
The Brussels based United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe - UNRIC provides information on UN activities to the countries of the region. It also provides liaison with institutions of the European Union in the field of information. Its outreach activities extend to all segments of society and joint campaigns, projects and events are organized with partners including the EU, governments, the media, NGOs, schools and local authorities.
