The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announces the launch of its annual photo exhibition – from 8-22 February, 2013 – at Brussels Midi Station, in the main concourse.
The display casts a fresh eye on the successful partnership between WFP and the European Union. Throughout 2012, the two organisations have worked together on the frontlines of hunger around the world, providing life-saving assistance – totalling 301 million euros – to millions of people in more than 30 countries.
The set of photographs are not only beautiful, but inspirational: women in Niger cheerfully wielding hoes to save rainwater, a young child licking his lips and laughing, women in Bangladesh whose successful businesses help whole communities and increasing numbers of people using cash and vouchers to support their families. All are real people, whose lives have been improved, thanks to European taxpayers' support.
WFP and the EU will continue to find new ways of helping the world's most vulnerable by boosting their access to nutritious food as well as their capacity to withstand environmental and man-made shocks.
The partnership, combined with the generosity of EU citizens, will ensure that vital assistance continues to reach those who are most in need – in 2013 and beyond.
