During the lecture "Poor economics: Why some poverty reduction policies work and some don't", Professor Banerjee will discuss the roots of global poverty, as well as the policies and development aid programmes supporting the effective reduction of poverty. The lecture will be followed by a discussion.

About Professor Banerjee
Professor Abhijit Banerjee is a renowned development economist and co-director of the Poverty Action Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Poverty Action Lab is a group of academics who went out of academia to test their economic theories in practice. Professor Banerjee is also author of the bestselling book "Poor Economics" and was named among the top 100 global thinkers by the Foreign Policy.
About the lecture
The lecture is organised as part of the Kapuscinski development lectures initiative of the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and partner universities. Since 2009, top global thinkers have discussed development at over forty public lectures across the European Union.
The lecture in Brussels is part of the 7th edition of the European Development Days. It is co-organised by a group of leading Belgian universities, including the Institute for European Studies and the "Centre d'Etudes et de la Coopération Internationale et du Développement" of the "Université libre de Bruxelles" (ULB), Collège d'Europe, Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel (HUB), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Université Catholique de Louvain-La-Neuve (UCL), Université de Liège (ULG), University Centre for Development Cooperation (UCOS), as well as the Millenium Festival, the Belgian Development Cooperation, Debating Europe and DEVEX.
