Launch of the IOM World Migration Report 2011 - Special 60th Anniversary Edition and Good Practice Roundtable on Migration and the Media
Few areas of public policy are subject to greater misrepresentation in public and political discourse, yet more influenced by public opinion, than international migration.
Despite the communications revolution, many remain poorly informed about the scale, scope and socioeconomic context of migration. Communicating effectively about migration is critical since managing migration also implies managing how migrants are perceived in society. Accurately informing relevant stakeholders and the wider public about migration may be the single most important policy tool in all societies faced with increasing diversity.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s World Migration Report 2011: Communicating Effectively about Migration directly addresses the challenges faced in this era of globalization and unprecedented human mobility by calling for a fundamental shift in the way we communicate about migration.
