Bring the Sun Home

by Chiara Andrich & Giovanni Pellegrini

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Ciné-ONU screened ‘BRING THE SUN HOME’

From South America to India, a journey to bring the sun home.
The documentary by Chiara Andrich and Giovanni Pellegrini follows Maura and Rosa from their village without electricity in El Salvador to the Barefoot College in India, to learn how to make solar panels. Is it a mission impossible for these two illiterate women who don’t speak English and have never left their village before? At the same time in South Peru, Jeny and Paula, who have just returned from India, show that the Barefoot College is the place where the impossible becomes possible, as they travel from village to village and bring the lights to thousands.

The screening was followed by a debate with:

  • Mr Gianluca Sambucini, Renewable Energy Expert, UNECE
  • Dr. Thomas Fohgrub, Specialist Renewable Energy Solutions, UNITAR
  • Mr. Gilles Garazi, Director Energetic Transition, Industrial Services of Geneva (SIG)
